How to write Injuries!
Note this is how to utilize them in your story and not going into the physical details how how to write every type of injury, because that second one would both stretch my medical knowledge and be way too expansive for a tumblr post.
1) Research
Knowing about the malady you are afflicting your character with is important. In the most optimal case this involves talking to an actual medical professional who is well-versed on that type of injury. However, since not all of us have doctors at our beck and call, a few articles from decent sources can suffice. Typically you're going to want these pieces of info:
symptoms (description fodder)
mechanism (how could this injury be sustained?)
level of impairment (know how and to what level the injury would reasonably impair someone. This info might need more digging around than the others)
healing time (know how long it takes to heal from this injury)
treatment (potentially including symptom management)
Having this knowledge will help ground your story in at least a touch of realism. Make sure your symptoms match the injury, make sure the mechanism of the injury is sufficient and just overall makes sense for the injury, don't have someone with a broken leg strolling around like nothing happened, don't have the healing time unexplainably short or long, don't treat shock by trying to cool them off, etc.
A quick note, if you are doing a fantasy/not-real injury or illness you don't get to necessarily skip this step. In fact, imo, it can become even harder since you have to fill in these details yourself. Remember, internal consistency is key.
2) Attach Relevance
You want the injury to matter to the plot or character development. Does the broken leg prevent a character from joining a big battle? Does the flu present an extra challenge to going to their daughter's dance recital? Does being weak or out of the action aggravate their hero complex or self worth issues prompting growth or self-reflection? Does a captive's injuries complicate a rescue mission? Does having their dominant arm injured force a usually brunt force reliant powerhouse to be more creative in their strategies? Does the overpowered character have to rely on their friends/allies more because of a certain injury?
Use the injury to show the level of a character's commitment or mental toughness, use it as an obstacle they have to work around, use it to up the stakes, use it to force them to be vulnerable or else show how unwilling they are to being vulnerable, use it to thwart the main team's perfect plan, use it to push a situation into even more dire straits, use it as an alternative to character death, etc etc. These are just a few ideas, there are numerous different ways you can use different injuries/illnesses in stories. Really think about how it could affect or reveal things about the plot, characters, and relationships.
As always, remember writing advice is highly subjective. Find what works for you. My number one writing advice is always to not take writing advice as hard truths :) happy writing!

Have YOU got an old Windows PC Microsoft has told you can't run Windows 11? It's time to give it a new life!
How to install Windows 11 on unsupported PC Hardware using Rufus. You can also disable some other Windows 11 bullshit like data harvesting and needing a Microsoft account.
It has been in the news a lot lately that Windows 11 isn't allowed to be installed on PCs without certain requirements, including the TPM 2.0, a chip that was only included in PCs made in 2018 or later. This means that once Windows 10 stops receiving security updates, those PCs will not be able to (officially) run a safe, updated version of Windows anymore. This has led to an estimated 240 million PCs bound for the landfill. Thanks Microsoft! I get you don't want to be seen as the insecure one, but creating this much waste can't be the solution.
(I know nerds, Linux is a thing. I love you but we are not having that conversation. If you want to use Linux on an old PC you are already doing it and you don't need to tell me about it. People need Windows for all sorts of reasons that Linux won't cut.)
So lately I have been helping some under privileged teens get set up with PCs. Their school was giving away their old lab computers, and these kids would usually have no chance to afford even a basic computer. They had their hard drives pulled so I have been setting them up with SSDs, but the question was, what to do about the operating system? So I looked into it and I found out there IS actually a way to bypass Microsoft's system requirement and put Windows 11 on PCs as old as 2010.
You will need: Rufus: An open source ISO burning tool.
A Windows 11 ISO: Available from Microsoft.
A USB Flash Drive, at least 16GB.
A working PC to make the ISO, and a PC from 2018 or older you want to install Windows 11 on.
Here is the guide I used, but I will put it in my own words as well.
Download your Windows 11 ISO, and plug in your USB drive. It will be erased, so don't have anything valuable on it. Run Rufus, select your USB drive in the Device window, and select your Windows 11 ISO with the Select button. (There is supposed to be a feature in Rufus to download your ISO but I couldn't get it to work.?
Tumblr media
Choose standard windows installation, and follow the screenshot for your settings. Once you are done that, press Start, and then the magic happens. Another window pops up allowing you to remove the system requirements, the need for a microsoft account, and turn off data collecting. Just click the options you want, and press ok to write your iso to a drive.
Tumblr media
From there you just need to use the USB drive to install windows. I won't go into details here, but here are some resources if you don't know how to do it.
Boot your PC from a USB Drive
Install Windows 11 from USB Drive
If you had a licensed copy of Windows 10, Windows 11 will already be licensed. If you don't, then perhaps you can use some kind of... Activation Scripts for Microsoft software, that will allow you to activate them. Of course I cannot link such tools here. So there you go, now you can save a PC made from before 2018 from the landfill, and maybe give it to a deserving teen in the process. The more we can extend the lives of technology and keep it out of the trash, the better.
Additional note: This removes the requirement for having 4GB Minimum of RAM, but I think that requirement should honestly be higher. Windows 11 will be unusable slow on any system with below 8GB of RAM. 8GB is the minimum I think you should have before trying this but it still really not enough for modern use outside of light web and office work. I wouldn't recommend trying this on anything with 4GB or less. I am honestly shocked they are still selling brand new Windows 11 PCs with 4GB of ram. If you're not sure how much RAM you have, you can find out in the performance tab of Task Manager in Windows, if you click the More Details icon on the bottom right. If you don't have enough, RAM for old systems is super cheap and widely available so it would definitely be worth upgrading if you have a ram starved machine you'd like to give a new life.

Helloooooo! So I promised a surprise for Mimosa's birthday and here it is! 🎉✨
I made a ghost/ukagaka of him and Mu!!!!
Tumblr media
If you don't know what a ghost is, it's a sort of desktop pet! You can have them on the corner of your screen or interact with them! Play with them! Give them gifts! Talk with them! Pet them... Many things to do ;)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you never had a ghost, I'm gonna explain how to download everything to make them work! If you're not a beginner, you can scroll and download the files (first the font, second the balloon then the nar ;3c)
Oooook lesssgo, the steps:
Download SSP on your computer! It's the thing ghosts work on, the files are all but useless without it! Here's the link: [http://ssp.shillest.net/] Fair warning, it's gonna be in japanese- Don't be scared and just click the download button!
Tumblr media
2. Double click on the thingie, and unzip it! I advise to not unzip it in your downloads and give it its own secured folder however ;P
Then to start SSP click on the ribbon in the now unzipped files, ignore the rest, there are just "the guts" on the ghost (I mean you can read the "README" file if you're unfamiliar to all this or are curious, it explains stuff)
Tumblr media
3. Let the cat girl (Emily) talks for a second (in japanese sorry be patient) until it opens a lil' window with stuff written (in japanese ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). Click on the right button at the bottom
Tumblr media
4. You're good to install them now! Download and install the three files down there ! In that order: the font, the balloon, the nar
Happy Monkey font!
Mimosa talks with the happy monkey font, if you don't have it already (I didn't), download the font and install it on your computer so that what he says doesn't look weird! I promise it will look neater if you do that!
the balloon file (zip)
It's his personal talking bubble! If you don't have it, the bubble won't be adapted to them. ;w;
Download it and drag the file on the japanese-talking girl, she will do the work for you!
Open the right-click menu by, well, right-clicking on the girl and go to the balloon and select "mimomu-balloon". You might want to change the language to "english" as well! The balloon is set!
Do that before installing the nar or he won't use the good bubble for the introduction!
Tumblr media
the nar file of the ghost
And it's the important file with the kids in it :3
Download it! If you have the font and the balloon installed, you can go and drag the nar file on Emily and you'll be done! You can change ghost in the right-click menu if you want ;3
Tell me if something is unclear <3
Now I have people to thank!
@creative-firebug was the big motivator and enabler! No ghost without them. And they found lil' bugs in it so I could fix them before putting it out in the wild too! Getting lil' hypes, hearts and advices really helps when you're working on something for months! And they linked me the tutorial so yes, enabler.
@zarla-s has created the template I used (Girl and triangle!)! I knew nothing (and still don't know a lot) of code and just how it works at all so thanks for that :D
@ukagakadreamteam answered questions I had and half of the fun stuff wouldn't have been possible without their answers!!!!!
Both Mimosa and Mu are my lil' kiddos shipkiddies

Since I can't hope to GPOSE again until at least Friday I'm going to show everyone my "super top-secret really great lighting portraits" that take 10-20 minutes. (depends on the pose really) This is made with the intent for you to try this with your own characters as many times as you want as often as you want. DO IT!
Step 1 - Have a character that can access the Malestrom Barracks in Limsa Lominsa. If you are using CRIMES it can be any character then you may load in the one you need. I have Durafein enlisted in Malestrom for this reason! Step 2 - stand here.
Tumblr media
Note: If your squad is meandering around just make sure you hide them with the gpose character display settings. Sometimes one of them will take your precious real estate!
Step 3 - Ensure it's daytime so the light is shining through. The best light imho is around 6am Eorzean time. But any daytime works well for this. If you're not using CRIMES you may have to stand around and wait. It's worth it though! Step 4 - When the light is right strike a pose and get into gpose!
Tumblr media
Note: If you're in vanilla make SURE you have "stop time/weather" checked or you may have a bad time! You can do that by hitting the 5th icon on the right at the top of your gpose window. It should have an image of a clock and a sun with a lock beneath them.
Step 5 - Zoom in and rotate 90 degrees or so! Sometimes I do 120 but you get the idea. I usually refine this a bit with the CRIMES camera.
Tumblr media
Ta-da! You have a super fast portrait! Notes: You can get your character to look at the camera by selecting the "Track Camera" (second eyeball icon) under "Motion Settings" (which is the walking icon just beneath lighting settings) I literally don't touch the gpose lighting settings for these because they're meant to be fast.
I refine things in shaders but the above is just my usual "gameplay" shader so you can see what you get without drastic adjustments! Here's the portrait I've done of Viedyn using this - and Here's the portrait of Durafein! I can't wait to see what you create!

I think it’s healthy to romanticize your life a bit. To toy with how you view your existence on this earth. There is something calm and charming about the mundanity of life. Even something as “boring” as your commute to work. What do you do along the way? Maybe you’re singing along to a song you really love. Or playing out a story in your head. Packing your favorite foods for lunch. Texting a friend about something silly. It’s so easy to look at your life and go “I just work and go home and sleep.” But what about the in between? The little moments of reprieve that we make for ourselves? Each day, whether we even realize it or not, we find ways to make life a little more bearable. A little more satisfying. The charms I carry on my bag/phone serve no purpose other than to make me happy. I like to look at them, so they’re there. I bet you have your own thing too. Something that reminds you that your life does have joy in it, even amongst all the chaos.
Be present in your own life. You are an entire human being with thoughts and feelings and personality! Interests! Your life is worth loving, even if it’s only a little bit. Even if you’re not where you want to be right now in it. You are here and you are alive. Romanticize the little things you take comfort in. And look forward to what the future holds.

That one scene from Eternal Diva with wintry Layton and Luke ❄️☺️
I thought it would be fun to try some screenshot redraws (I’ll probably be doing some scenes from the games as well). But can I just say I have mad respect for the artists of this movie? Attempting that background, even my simplified version, was no joke! 😳

3 tips to writing character flaws
1) make their flaw congruent with the rest of who they are.
There’s a lot of different ways to do this, most commonly I’ve seen the “their strength is their flaw” which you can do but I’d recommend exploring it more deeply.
For example, maybe they’re good at attacking things head on, being honest and straightforward, but because they’ve always relied on that they don’t have the practice or an inclination to rely on other methods such as being more crafty, diplomatic, and subtle which are traits a situation sometimes calls for. I call this the “wrong tool for the job” flaw where an over-reliance on their strength handicaps them in situations where a different approach seems better suited. I think people and characters also just have a habit of using their tool for the job rather than the ‘best’ tool.
2) Don’t just tell us their flaw, show it.
Show this character trait coming out in their actions, have it influence the plot in key moments. If they’re reckless, don’t just have another character call them reckless, have them act reckless in a way that impacts their relationships with other characters or the plot.
3) Screw the whole “strengths vs flaws” thing altogether
try viewing character traits outside of a rigid binary of good and bad that you pull from a deck, and instead derive/connect them to deeper truths about who the character is, (how do they deal with problems/what is their ‘go-to’ method? what do they value? what are they skilled or unskilled at? what do they believe about the world and themselves?) and then why the characters is that way (note that it doesn’t all have to come from trauma. Please don’t attribute everything to a trauma. General life experience informs a lot of beliefs/traits, and then some is also just an inborn inclination) I have a longer post about how I tend to try to build a cohesive layout of who a character is.
Note as always, that these just things that I currently find helpful. Use or discard as works for you and your work. Happy writing!

I didn't know you could change the main color in Win98 to pink 🩷
By the way, I've been here for about 10 years, but I still don't know how to make my art popular. I post 1-2 times per month, not too much. If I'm lucky, I can get 10 likes, but it happens once a year. If anyone sees this post, maybe they can tell me what I've been doing wrong for all those years.

Most people probably already know this but just in case (also it's a fun visual lol) Wind-Up Sun (and Moon) can give you extra, movable lights. You can spawn them in Brio, position them anywhere using the XYZ controls, and then just zero out the size. Refining this last pose right now - then the next "Lieutenant" set will be up tomorrow. Viedyn seems to be holding his hand.
Hmm.
Perhaps he fell?
